- Group tours do not provide diplomatic protection — your tour operator is not a substitute for an embassy.
- Photographing freely outside designated tourist sites can be treated as espionage.
JURISDICTION NOTES
- US passport holders have been formally banned from travel to DPRK since 2017 (US Treasury restriction).
- Borders have remained largely closed since 2020 COVID restrictions; very limited group tours have resumed.
- Detention can result in years of hard labor — Otto Warmbier (2016) is a documented case.
